EXPLORE BATH

A Day Wandering Through Bath’s Parks & Gardens

If there’s one thing I love about Bath, it’s how the city feels like it was built for walking, and nowhere is that more true than in its parks. This is my go-to route when I want to slow down, breathe fresh air, and see Bath from its prettiest angles.

I always start at Alexandra Park, high up on Beechen Cliff. It’s a bit of a climb, but the view is worth every step, the whole city spreads out below, bathed in that warm honey-coloured glow Bath is famous for.

From there, I wander down to the river and into Parade Gardens. There’s something so peaceful about sitting among the flowerbeds and watching the Avon flow past Pulteney Bridge. If I have time, I’ll take a quick detour into Henrietta Park for its rose garden, which is like a secret spot locals keep to themselves.

Then it’s over to Sydney Gardens, once a favourite of Jane Austen. Walking there always feels like stepping back in time. Just around the corner, Royal Victoria Park opens up with big green lawns and the Botanical Gardens tucked away at the edge where the perfect place to linger if you love plants as much as I do.

I like to end the day at Prior Park Landscape Garden. Standing on the Palladian bridge and looking out over Bath, you can almost feel the city’s history in the air.

At Selection of Bath, we believe in celebrating not just local makers and their craft, but also the landscapes that inspire them. And honestly? Days like this make it easy to see why Bath is such a special place to call home.

Bath’s Independent Café & Dessert Stroll

There’s something magical about wandering through Bath’s honey-coloured streets with the smell of fresh coffee in the air. This little city has no shortage of cosy corners and artisan flavours, and today I want to share my favourite route for a slow, indulgent day out. It is lovingly curated by Selection of Bath, your guide to discovering the best of our city’s independent gems.

Start your morning at Colonna & Small’s, a true haven for coffee lovers. Their minimalist space lets the coffee shine, and every cup feels like a small work of art. From there, stroll to Society Café, a bright and bustling spot where you can sip your flat white while watching the world go by.

A short walk will take you to Mokoko Coffee & Bakery, where the pastries are as irresistible as the coffee. I always leave with a croissant or two tucked away for later.

For a touch of sweetness, visit Sugarcane Studio, a tiny dessert haven serving delicate cakes and treats that look almost too pretty to eat.

Next, make your way to BATHZAAR, a modern café-meets-community space where locals gather for brunch, good conversations and food that makes you want to stay a little longer.

End your stroll at Good Day Café, where the atmosphere is as uplifting as the name suggests. It is the perfect place to reflect on your walk or to plan the next one.

Bath’s independent cafés are more than places to eat and drink. They are stories, flavours and friendly faces waiting to be discovered. At Selection of Bath, we celebrate these local treasures and help you explore the city one sip and bite at a time.

A Stroll Through Bath’s Cultural Heart

There’s something magical about Bath, from the way the golden stone glows in the morning light to the feeling that history is just within reach. If you have a few hours, lace up your comfiest shoes and join me for a walk through some of the city’s most iconic cultural landmarks.

We begin at the Roman Baths, where the emerald-green water shimmers gently, and steam rises into the cool air. Standing here, you can almost picture Roman citizens gathering and chatting centuries ago.

Next is Bath Abbey. Even if you’ve visited countless churches, stepping inside this one is unforgettable. The fan-vaulted ceiling feels like stone lacework overhead, and the atmosphere is calm yet awe-inspiring.

A short stroll brings us to Pulteney Bridge, one of the few bridges in the world lined with shops on both sides. Stop for a moment to watch the River Avon flow over the weir in a graceful curve.

From there, we wander uphill to The Circus, a perfect circle of Georgian townhouses with an understated elegance. Continue walking and you’ll arrive at the Royal Crescent, where the sweeping architecture and wide green lawns make it the perfect spot for a picnic or quiet break.

Before we finish, step into the Bath Assembly Rooms, once the heart of high society. Imagine candlelit dances, the sound of music drifting through the air, and the soft rustle of silk gowns.

Exploring these landmarks is a reminder that Bath is more than just beautiful buildings; it’s a living story, waiting to be experienced at your own pace. And if you want to take a piece of Bath’s charm home with you, visit Selection of Bath, where we bring together unique local crafts, artisanal goods, and stories from the very people who make this city so special.
